Access MSQ Sample puzzles to practice finding solutions, designing experiments and analyzing experimental results in order to find more solutions, design more experiments, and analyze still further results, etc.
The Math-Science Quest for Solutions (MSQ) provides an opportunity for teachers throughout the United States and around the world to enable their students to use experimental science to cope with challenging puzzles in elementary mathematics. Research teams of students compete in weekly competitions in MSQ; they plan and conduct programs of experimental research to seek out the solutions to problems posed. Participants design experiments, perform them, and analyze the results in order to discover more proposed solutions by finding the missing resources in the missing solutions by generating hypotheses about the missing resources and designing more experiments to further analyze, etc.
Proposed solutions by team members and experiments by teams are uploaded to MSQ on the Internet multiple times during the week. Evaluations are provided immediately; proposed solutions are indicated to be correct or incorrect (and why), results of experiments are reported, and scores are computed for individuals and teams.
The puzzles are also available in a form that adults and youngsters can deal with outside of the classroom tournaments. Examples of these puzzles for individuals are available at Individual Puzzles.
